Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires that organisations nominate a Competent Person to assist and advise then in health and safety matters. The purpose of the law is to ensure that you have access to specialist advice and assistance where required, either through the appointment of suitable persons within your organisation, or by using a consultancy like OMS. Many of our clients have appointed us as their competent person, and whilst this does not absolve you of responsibility under UK law, it will give you the reassurance that the job is being done correctly and in line with the law.
