May has passed so quickly I can’t remember much that happened, as it has been quite hectic. We have just concluded the NEBOSH National General Certificate and NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management courses.
My role is to prepare all of the training literature for the delegates and tutors, and there is a lot of preparatory
work involved before the courses commence, as well as the day to day routines during the courses.
Once the booking acknowledgements and joining instructions have been sent out, the candidate registration forms sent back to NEBOSH (registering the delegates for the exams) by the set date, it’s time to start printing. Notebooks and supporting literature (handouts) are printed off and collated, orders are then placed for the printed workbooks that are supplied to the delegates also. I then ensure we have enough supplied for the drinks machine and organise the catering.
On the eve of the course the training room is prepared, setting out the desks, putting out pens, workbooks, notepaper, put up notices and ensuring all is ready for the tutor. I then check the break out room, where refreshments and lunches are served, top-up the drinks machine and make sure the all-important biscuits are out! When the first day of the training arrives it is always good to meet the delegates and finally put a face to a name and as the course progresses build up a rapport and learn more about them.
Finally the day of the exams dawns (for the NGC Fire it is one day, or in the case of the NGC 2 days of exams), like today as I draft my blog I am invigilating the FC2 Fire written exam. All you can hear is the creak of the desks as the delegates write and the turning of pages. Tomorrow is the turn of the NGC delegates - they sit two
2 hour papers, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, again I will be the invigilator.
Once the exams are over, we bid farewell to the delegates, scripts are sent straight off to NEBOSH by recorded delivery and it’s the long wait for the results. In one months time I will be starting the process all over again ready to greet the next NEBOSH NGC delegates on 30th July.
